Filming interview with the NMI’s Project Manager, Dara CarrollHappy Spring! It’s a symbolic time of year, of new beginnings and exciting ventures, and here at Noho we’ve embraced this mind-set! We have a number of fantastic projects under way, many of which relate to the current 1916 centenary commemorations. One of the largest of these is the National Museum of Ireland’s Proclaiming a Republic: The 1916 Rising exhibition, which opened recently at Collins Barracks. Working closely with Tandem Design, Noho provided a range of AV content for this exhibition including interactive touchscreens, projections and short films. The NMI has always had a strong connection with the Rising; having staged exhibitions for its twenty fifth (1941) and fiftieth (1966) anniversaries. Proclaiming a Republic. The exhibition provides an in depth and poignant look into the momentous events of that Easter Week, telling the story through an impressive collection of artefacts and personal accounts drawn from its Decorative Arts and History branch. As Hugh Linehan of The Irish Times recently pointed out, the exhibition contains some of ‘the most significant artefacts’ from 1916. A highlight for us was filming interviews with key figures from the Museum, including the exhibition’s Curator, Sandra Heise and Director, Raghnall Ó Floinn. These interviews gave great insight into the work involved in choosing artefacts and setting up the exhibition. Working on the final projection at the end of the exhibition was another highlight – it blends current news headlines with excerpts from the Proclamation, drawing parallels between the aspirations of the signatories and life in modern Ireland. The exhibition is staged in the Riding Room in Collins Barracks and runs indefinitely. If you’re looking for a comprehensive overview of the Rising, illustrated with evocative objects including the Proclamation and the Irish flag, we highly recommend a visit!
